The Port of Hueneme and St. John's School

November 9, 2017

Exciting news!  The Chief Commercial and Public Affairs Officer of The Port of Hueneme informed us that they have selected a drawing by our very own, Jack Thompson, 6th grader, to be used as promotional material for the year

Jack's completed his drawing in the 4th grade as a result of a field trip he attended in Mr. Henricksen's class.  As part of our St. John's commitment to experiential learning, students at St. John's have had the opportunity to take a field trip to the Port of Hueneme. Students are taken on a guided tour to learn more about what goes on at this working deepwater port and its vital economic role in our community.  The Port is one of the top 10 ports in fresh produce and automobiles in the United States. Importing and exporting globally throughout six continents The Port of Hueneme is one of the most productive and efficient commercial trade gateways for niche cargo on the West Coast. The Port is governed by 5 locally elected Commissioners who reside within the boundaries of the Oxnard Harbor District. The Port moves $9 billion in goods annually and consistently ranks among the top ten U.S. ports for automobiles and fresh produce. Port operations support the community by bringing $1.1 billion in economic activity and creating over 13,000 trade-related jobs. Trade through the Port of Hueneme generates more than $69 million in annual state and local taxes which funds vital community services.  This is among many opportunities offered to students at St. John's.

St. John's is extremely proud of Jack Thompson.  Well done!
