The Sunday of September 9th dawned bright in Ventura and Ojai. The trails were calling, and the cyclists of St. John's Lutheran Church and School answered. They descended upon Foster Park with steely bikes and even steely looks of determination. Rising to the challenge, a group from St. John's put foot to pedal, beginning a "chain" reaction of riding fun that took them from the park in Ventura, all the way up to Ojai, nearly 800 feet of climb.
Meeting at the MOB shop in Ojai, even more cyclists of St. John's took over the parking lot, ready to join the original band of pioneers in cycling back to Foster Park. A St. John's "spokes" person said, "It was amazing, to see so many families gearing up and ready to tackle the trail together. I felt like I was in a bike gang--minus the tattoos and leather vests."
The wind whipping through their blue shirts as they cycled downhill, St. John-ers made it to the park in record time, sweaty but triumphant in their cycling prowess.
After hydrating, Pastor Mark and the worship band led the team in a time of praise and study, thanking our Creator for parks, bikes, and beauty.
"It was a "wheelie' good time," said a cyclist (who wished to remain anonymous). "Can't wait for next year!"
